Perisher is committed to working to achieve its vision…
To be Australia's pre-eminent four-season destination mountain resort, providing international class facilities, based on ecologically sustainable development principles.
With this vision at the fore, Mountain and Village improvements have been planned to complement each other.
New World class mountain facilities will take advantage of the geographic and topographic location of Perisher that virtually guarantees that it receives more snow, over a larger area.
Continued implementation of the award winning Ski Slope Master Plan will ensure the efficient integration of the original four separate resorts through the modernisation of lifting, an extensive snowmaking system to take skiers from one corner of the resort to the other, under all conditions; and strategically placed on-mountain restaurant facilities to enhance and improve visitor amenity and experience.
Perisher’s recent $19 million snowmaking expansion through Happy Valley and up Towers Run on Mt Perisher is the resort’s most recent significant improvement delivering more reliable and higher quality snow in these popular areas.
For the vision to be realised, the village will provide an improved range of entertainment and active and passive activities. A purposeful creation of a range of pleasurable activities that balance recreational, educational, retail and entertainment opportunities. The Perisher Village will incorporate the principles of Ecologically Sustainable Development, from energy and water efficiency to the building materials and use of natural light. Under the plan the existing number of daytime car spaces will be maintained.
In 2003 Perisher received Government approval of the Perisher Detailed Village Design Plan (DVDP) and lodged a Stage 1 Development Application for the Village Centre in late 2004. In 2004 the DVDP was recognised by the NSW Division of the Planning Institute of Australia with an Award for Excellence in Planning in the 'Urban Design - Plans and Ideas' category.
On 22 November 2006, the DVDP was approved by the NSW Minister for Planning allowing the resort to move to the next stage in the process.
Unfortunately Perisher has been unable to reach commercial agreement with the NSW Government to obtain the rights to develop the village. The NSW Government has indicated that it is committed to exploring other options including outside interests to realise the village.
