Why August is such a good month!

July is typically full of storms that provide plenty of snow and this year was no exception. Since July 1 2008, Perisher Blue has received 188cm of accumulated snowfalls and the Resort's snowmakers have worked tirelessly adding to the cover. Plus the snow groomers have established all the ski runs, access trails interlinking the four Resort areas, have prepared all lift loading and unloading sites, terrain parks, Superpipe, and Tube Town (snow-tubing park).
This now means all 1245 hectares of skiable terrain on offer at Perisher Blue are available and ready for skiing and snowboarding. The vast expanse of off-piste areas and over 100 groomed runs is simply too good to resist.
Now the base has been set, in August the occasional snow top-up simply freshens the cover, enhancing the base and making snow-riding ideal. All the hard work has been done in July, leaving August to simply enjoy what the Resort has to offer.
August sees the avid snow revellers and seasoned riders hit the slopes in all their glory, it's a great time to mix it up with the experts and to find how quickly one can improve just people watching on the runs. Taking a lesson at this time can develop skill levels rapidly as 100% of the Resort's terrain is accessible for instructors to offer tuition and specialist coaching. It's a fantastic time to learn how to ski or board as the quality of the snow allows making turns a little easier.
August might be the peak of winter, however at Perisher Blue lift lines are not an issue. The Resort's comprehensive lifting system can move over 53,000 people per hour, which is by far the most in the Southern Hemisphere.
In August, believe it or not, accommodation specials can be found if you take the time to look and many speciality retailers start to discount their stock in August offering great deals on equipment and clothing.
