What to Pack

Alpine weather is unpredictable and conditions can change quickly. Wear your clothing in layers with insulating clothes on the inside and wind and waterproof clothing on the outer. Several thin layers made of wool or synthetic fibres have insulating properties and are better than thick bulky layers. Never wear jeans, cotton or nylon as these materials will not provide enough protection. Body heat is lost from the head, feet and hands so it is important to wear beanies, warm long thin woollen socks and waterproof gloves. To protect your skin and eyes, do not forget sunscreen, sunglasses and goggles. Don't forget to pack comfortable, waterproof footwear that will offer good grip on slippery conditions.

Quality waterproof outer jackets and pants may be hired however due to health regulations you will need to purchase gloves and beanies.

While Perisher Blue is a really large resort moving from point to point is quite easy. Skitube between Perisher Blue and Blue Cow Mountain is free with a valid mountain pass and runs regularly between the two resort areas. A free shuttle buses circuits between Perisher Valley and Smiggins Holes from 7.30am and 6pm daily and runs till 11pm on Tuesday and Saturday for night skiing and boarding. Perisher Blue's network of chairlifts is supported by surface lifts as well. So on windy days when the chairlifts might be on hold, you can still rely on T bars to move you around. Always carry a trail map when riding the slopes. Pocket sized trail guides are available free of charge from a number of outlets on the mountain and in Jindabyne, it is also important to get older children in the habit of carrying a trail map. Each run is clearly marke so that you can confidently guide your way around the mountain on runs that are suited to your ability. Our trail guides also explain important issues in snow safety such as trail signs and the Alpine Responsibility Code. It is important that you know this code. These guides also contain important information such as lift operation times and places to eat and drink.

The family will build a big appetite while cruising the slopes but rest assured there are many places to eat and drink. If your children are in full day Kids Ski and Board programs lunch is included.
